The world took on an almost blue hue as the moon took it's place in the night sky, washing out the vibrant colors of the day and revealing the quiet, hidden beauty of everything it touched. A jungle-gym transformed into a silvery castle and the small pond nearby twinkled merrily as the night breeze rippled its surface.

The green-eyed young woman couldn't help but smile as she felt that same breath of air brush past her, clothes fluttering and hair flying, lifting her up even as she closed her eyes. The wind seemed to play with her for a moment, slipping past her silent feathers effortlessly even as it kept her aloft, before the summer thermal moved on as quickly as it came, changing her direction as it did.

She wasn't too worried about that, tonight's flight wasn't about the destination, or even the journey there, but the simple joy she felt in gliding over the town she had protected for years. With no fear, she flew wherever the wind guided her. No camera, errant plane, or misstep on her own part could bring her down tonight; she was safe, with the feeling of the warm air on her face, her staff secure at her belt, and her constant companion at her side.

Well, nearly at her side, she realized as she cracked her eyes open to look at the angel flying at a safe distance beneath her left wingtip. Eyes softening, her smile grew just a little. Even after all these years of practice, she still had her mishaps and he was always there to catch her if she fell.

Though the others had also been with her through all the ups and downs, he was the only one who had ever seen her do this. After everyone had gone home and those who lived with the two of them had fallen asleep, she would fly high above her problems and the everyday world. There were no need for words under the revealing light of the full moon, only a companionable silence, a comforting shoulder, a combined sentiment.

Caught up in her own thoughts, she didn't notice the white clad man looking back up at her with a tilt of his head. His own countenance, usually kept carefully blank or aloof, seemed to melt slightly as a fond affection worked its way to the surface even as they continued to follow the wind onward.

However, the wind changed quite suddenly, as if miffed that it was now being ignored, and the girl faltered. In less than a moment she was securely in the others arms, none the worse for the wind's fickle nature.

And exactly where she belonged.
